Gurdwara Nanaksar in Vancouver area is located in the city of Surrey, specifically, Cloverdale.
This Gurdwara is the third to be built in Canada after Winnipeg and Toronto. Sant Baba Gurdev Singh Jee came to
Vancouver in November 1998 along with several Ragiis (Monks). The Ragiis performed daily Kirtan duties at Sukh
Sagar Gurdwara in New Westminster. At this time Baba Jee formed a committee and started to look for suitable sites
for the future Gurdwara. The present site was found in the spring of 2003. At this time, members of the Sangat went
to visit Baba Jee in Fresno, California. The main objective of this visit was to get formal approval of the site from
Baba Jee. After receiving Baba Jee’s blessing, the Sangat was able to acquire a church where the present Gurdwara is
located. Pooranmashi is celebrated at this Gurdwara every month in the evening. The Sangat from far and near attend
the Bhog of Sri Akhand Path of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Jee followed by Katha & Kirtan.
Recently, a new site with brand new building in the heart of City of Surrey has been purchased
to build new Gurdwara at a quite spacious lot as the old place to accomodate the increasing Sangat could not be
expanded due to city regulations and non-availability of adjoing properties. The arrival of year 2008 was celebrated
at the new location with Kirtan Darbar until midnight.
